Response 4 March 7, 2000 [Steve,] Sometimes I worry about the "question everything" mantra. Questioning is only of value if it is structured. I am reminded of the Freshman student of philosophy who thinks that Descartes has obliterated all existence by his analytic "doubt." Nihilism is a natural haven for the weak minded (though we do sometimes find the genius washed ashore there as well). I am sure you will agree that "questioning" is only truly questioning when it proceeds in a methodical (and analytical) fashion to assess the reliability or veracity of an assertion. It need not be scientific, but it should approximate a coherent method relevant to a truth-game.
