Monday Muse v.1 n.11

[David,]

I found your insights particularly thought-provoking this week. Louis' so-called critique offers a reminder to pay close attention to the tone of our public discourse in an effort to discourage such oppressive and hateful seeds from germinating in society. But can this be done while honoring our constitutional commitment to free speech? Is it better to allow such words to be voiced so that we can know the true beliefs of the hateful, so that we won't be surprised? Or do hateful words infect listeners, and thus are worthy of containment like a disease?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

[Jill D.]
